CHIP Receives $20,000 Grant for Rebuilding Paradise Community Village
Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) has received a $20,000 grant from United Way of Northern California (UWNC) to help CHIP fund staffing costs for rebuilding the Paradise Community Village rental property.
The grant will help pay for time CHIP’s staff will spend on rebuilding the property that was lost due to the Camp Fire. The building plans will be updated to include necessary design modifications to meet new energy efficiency, fire safety, and building code standards.
“This grant will help us respond strategically to the recovery of the Town of Paradise,” said Seana O’Shaughnessy, president/CEO of CHIP. “We are grateful for the generosity of United Way of Northern California and their commitment to helping the Paradise community rebuild. At a critical time for the entire region, it’s a privilege to have the Paradise Community Village property be a part of the solution for healthy, affordable housing in Paradise.”
CHIP anticipates the new building will house around 100 residents within its 36 units. The property will support individuals and families.
“The areas affected by the Camp Fire need housing now more than ever,” said Desiree Gonzalez, UWNC’s Development Director in Butte & Glenn Counties. “CHIP is a proven leader in affordable housing in the North State and provides a mix of self-help homeownership and rental housing opportunities for people who otherwise may not be housed. Paradise Community Village was a beautiful multifamily property and United Way is proud to have a part in helping CHIP rebuild.”
