For Immediate Release

Chico, CA — Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) is proud to announce it has received a $164,000 grant from NeighborWorks America to support affordable housing development in Northern California.
This investment arrives at a critical time, as communities across the country face continued economic uncertainty and persistent housing shortages. The grant will allow CHIP to build and preserve affordable homes, expand resident services, create pathways to homeownership, and provide much-needed stability and opportunity for residents.
“We’re honored to receive this funding from NeighborWorks America,” said Seana O’Shaughnessy, President and CEO of CHIP. “It helps us meet the needs we’re seeing every day in our neighborhoods. We are especially grateful for the support of Senators Padilla and Schiff, as well as Congressman LaMalfa, who continue to champion housing and community investment here in Northern California.”
To CHIP’s donors and supporters, Tashibia, a CHIP resident, offers a heartfelt message: “I want them to know their money is helping families who would be homeless without their help. A lot of families here would be in trouble without CHIP. You’re helping seniors, you’re helping humankind.” She stresses the impact of affordable housing, allowing residents to maintain their dignity, pay their bills, and lead fulfilling lives.
CHIP encourages reporters and stakeholders to review impact statistics through the NeighborWorks Impact Map, which highlights how these investments are changing lives in communities like ours. In Financial Year 2024 (FY24), NeighborWorks America invested over $1.9 million in California, created and/or maintained over 7,400 jobs, and provided housing and counseling services for over 63,000 individuals.
In 2024, CHIP’s Self-Help team had a total of 63 homes under construction. Out of those 63 homes, 34 were completed by the end of 2024. The other 29 were completed in 2025. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of NeighborWorks America.
For more than 45 years, NeighborWorks America has supported community-based organizations like ours with funding, training, and tools that make a measurable difference. We are thankful to Congress for providing this consistent support that helps us meet local needs and respond in real time to our community’s most urgent challenges.
