COMMUNITY HOUSING IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM TO BUILD IN CORNING

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 12, 2017

CORNING—For the first time ever, CHIP is building a mutual self-help subdivision in Corning. CHIP is accepting applications for 23 lots at Stonefox Ranch subdivision on Stonefox and Clear Creek Streets off Solano Street.

The income limit is $47,900 for 1-4 person households and $63, 250 for 5-8 person households. Construction is expected to begin in early 2018. Visit www.chiphousing.org to find out more or to join the interest list.

Under CHIP’s self-help program, families build their homes in groups of five to nine families under the supervision of CHIP’s construction staff.  Each household dedicates at least 30 hours per week in labor towards building their new homes and help each other during the process, which takes about a year. All homes must be finished before anyone moves in.

House plans included 3-5 bedrooms expected to be priced under $200,000, with no down payment, affordable monthly payments and low fixed interest rates. USDA Rural Development provides funding assistance for these programs. Builders must make at or below 80 percent median income for the county in which they build, have decent credit, and earn enough income to make monthly payments on the loan.

CHIP also has other developments starting soon and maintains an interest list. For more information about self-help housing, visit chiphousing.org
