Help Community Housing Improvement Program Rebuild After Camp Fire for Giving Tuesday and Beyond

Dear Friends,

So many people have been devastated by the Camp Fire, and the loss is unfathomable. We sincerely hope this finds you and your loved safe.

Many of our own staff members have lost their homes. Nearly 100 of CHIP’s low-income residents are now displaced as we lost Paradise Community Village Apartments, one of our beautiful, newer 36-unit rental housing developments. These families, individuals and seniors have incomes from 30 percent to 60 percent of the area median income for Butte County, which makes the loss and recovery that much harder for them. What makes this tragedy even worse is that Butte County and California as a whole already lack affordable housing, and this disaster only compounds the existing crisis….probably for years to come. And it is going to be a long-term effort to rebuild, both for us and the rest of the community.

We are so grateful to those of you who have given generously this year, especially those who insisted we keep the funds they spent on our cancelled Rock the House Fundraiser November 16.

We were hesitant at first to offer another opportunity for support, but CHIP’s mission is even more critical than before. There is very little existing housing for people who lost their homes, and our former residents are struggling to come up with deposits and other needs in order to re-establish their lives.

This Giving Tuesday, we ask you to help us help these people begin to rebuild their lives and to provide assistance to CHIP to begin the long-term endeavor to replace housing that was lost and increase homeownership and affordable rental opportunities in our service area.  All funds donated to CHIP through Giving Tuesday AND throughout the rest of 2018 will be used to support both of these crucial short- and long-term needs for the community. If you would like to help, please visit http://www.chiphousing.org/donate and make your secure donation via credit or debit card. If you would like to send a check, please mail it to 1001 Willow St. Chico CA 95928, attention Desiree Gonzalez. Please make your check payable to CHIP.

Thank you for your support of affordable housing and helping people help themselves.
