Seniors Enjoy Affordable Housing in Live Oak Thanks to CHIP and Partners

LIVE OAK—Several low-income seniors are moving into brand new apartments this spring. For some, this is the first stable home they’ve ever had.
Maple Park Senior Apartments opened in April and the first two groups of residents have already moved in. The second and third phase of move-ins are scheduled in May. This project is a joint effort among Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP), the Regional Housing Authority of Sutter and Nevada Counties (RHASNC) and the City of Live Oak. The new 35-unit apartment community, built by Sunseri Construction, is home for low- and very low-income seniors, 55 years or older. This development has one- and two-bedroom units with project-based Section 8.
“Many of the residents have struggled with chronic homelessness,” says Melissa Cullens, CHIP’s compliance specialist. “Everyone has been so incredibly thankful and appreciative for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing the residents turn this brand new property into a community.”
This community has a full-time resident manager and a part-time service coordinator to provide resident services and activities on site. Maple Park Senior Apartments is conveniently located and is within walking distance to many services. It is adjacent to Maple Park Phase I, a 56-unit, family apartment community for low-income residents that was completed in 2013. Maple Park Phase I has won several awards for architecture. Mogavaro Notestine Associates is the architectural firm for both developments.
The property will be rented up with at least 75% of the units going to extremely low income households (30% Area Median Income). There is already a short waiting list, but those interested can apply at the RHASNC website or contact Daisy Lizama 530-671-0220x114.
